Tips for Victims of Violence

Abuse Hurts…abuse can be hitting, name calling, controlling a person’s money or action, threats, or forced or unwanted sex. In Calgary we care and we have many services that can help you. Remember it is not your fault.

If you’re being abused, please call one of the numbers listed. The agency can also help people who are hurting or abusing someone.

Tips for Kids
  • Tell a caring adult—teacher, parent, school nurse, principal, etc.
  • Telling is not tattling—bullying is a difficult problem and you need adult help.
  • Be persistent and keep telling until you talk to an adult who will listen.
  • Ignore the bully, but tell if the situation does not improve.
  • Practice saying “No.”
  • Draw or write about your feelings.
  • Say nothing and walk away.
  • Stick up for each other.
  • Act confidently.
  • Avoid unsupervised areas of school.
  • Don’t bring your valuables to school.
